Assistant Chief
Within the Chain of Command, the Board of Directors hires a nonexempt employee, as the Assistant Chief who will assist the EMS Chief. The Assistant Chief helps to oversee the entire CARS organization and functions as the next in line to the Chief as far as the Chain in command model He/she works closely with the Board of Directors to assist with vital procedures of finance, strategic planning, grants writing or procurement, and the vision of the service for the community.
The Assistant Chief also is the second step in the chain of command of Operations. He/she is responsible for assisting with supporting the operations staff in the provision of excellent patient care and community service. He/she will be appointed or delegated in some of the responsibilities to key staff. In the event, that the Chief of Operations is unavailable he or she is the officer in charge of any events or problems that arise. Any problems, questions, concerns, or special needs should go through the EMS Chief first.
The Assistant Chief also holds the responsibility to ensure the structure of day-to-day operations reflects the policies/procedures/standards outlined in the employee manual/ SOPs and is also responsible for making case-by-case decisions for daily operations in absence of the Chief of Operations, issues which are not clearly defined in the policy and make reports to the Board of Directors at a regular meeting and/or emergency sessions.
Minimum Desired Qualifications:
Paramedic with at least two years of experience
Background in EMS Management / Human Resources Management
Optional Additional Qualifications:
Billing experience
Must be available for a face-to-face interview during the prescribed interview window
